2 Weeks Worth

Hey all, Jeff here. I realize you all probably forgot about me as I've been quiet over here but I'm going to try to post every so often. I do get Michigan players occasionally and I actually stopped posting them on my other blog with the intent of posting them here and never got around to it. I'm going to save up the cards and post ever week or 2 depending on how many cards I got for this blog. I went back 2 weeks for this post so let's see what I got. I guess I'll go alphabetical this week.

I'll start off with this Red, White and Blue version of Prizm. This is the 2nd Burke I've picked up this year which is good considering I only got 1 of his all of last year. This came to me for $.15/shipped and is my 12th card of Trey.

Now this card shouldn't be to surprising since I have a bunch of different versions of it from various Panini. I only paid $2/shipped for my 14th different Darboh. This one is actually serial numbered to /99 which I don't remember all the others being numbered.

Who knew Caris LeVert would be such a good NBA player? Not myself. Luckily his cards are still fairly cheap. I got this jersey/ball swatch that is also numbered to /149 and it came to me for $2.99/shipped. It is my 10th different card of LeVert but only my 1st this year.

This is only my 7th card of Robinson and only the 2nd one in the last 3 years that I've picked up so I was really surprised to win it. I picked up this relic card for only $1.77/shipped.

One of my newest player collections even though it's up to 5 different cards now. This is the 2nd relic of his and the first auto. It's also numbered to /99 and I picked it up for $3/shipped. I couldn't win his cards at all when they first got released but I've been picking them up recently.

This card is the start of my newest player collection. This is the first of his and while it's not a very flashy card, it is only the 1st of hopefully many. I picked it up for $.24/shipped.

Last but not least, I picked up another of Wormley. It's my 1st this year but I did manage to grab 4 others last year along with a couple of dupes to make it 6 last year and 7 total. I picked this one up for $2.25/shipped.

Like I said, I'll try to be back on a regular basis but I'm not going to guarantee anything, I know myself too well. As I'm typing this, Devin Bush and Rashan Gary have been drafted, so hopefully we'll start seeing their cards here soon. Until next time.

2017 trade package #1: Sports Cards From the Dollar Store

Having shown off some goods over on TMV this evening, let's have a look at even more stuff from Doug at Sports Cards From the Dollar Store in the 42nd(!) package I've posted from him on this here blog:
The basketball contingent starts with this pair of 2013-14 Panini Crusade RCs of recent stars Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr.  THJ went on an absolute tear for Atlanta last Friday, then posted this yesterday:
#RespectGreatness indeed.

Joining that pair was this beauty:
This here is a :takes deep breath: Glenn Robinson III 2014-15 Panini National Treasures Air Apparent Jersey Autographs Prime patch auto (#05/25).  This card of the third Glenn Robinson is a triple threat of a very cool signature, ridiculous patch, and low numbering.  GRIII will be in the All-Star slam dunk contest and tweeted the following this morning:
Good luck to him!  This amazing patch auto is my fourth Robinson hit ant 69th overall in my basketball collection.

Football was represented too, and it even had a Super Bowl connection:
Repping my vintage football collection is this 1962 Post Cereal CFL of former QB Bob Ptacek.  If you see a CFL-related card in my collection you can put good money on it having come from Doug, who digs up gems like this all the time.  Very cool!  It's been almost four years but I previously posted about Ptacek after picking up his TK Legacy auto.
Moving on to a more recent product, this Devin Funchess 2015 Prestige Draft Picks card will go right into my football inserts PC.  Funch's base card from this set looks pretty nice, but this extra shiny/foil-y insert of the 2015 2nd-rounder is cool too.
Joining those guys is--what's this?  A redemption?  Interesting.  It's from 2007 Playoff Contenders and autographed Rookie Ticket #106 is Alan Br--
ALAN BRANCH KILLS QBs
Uh, I believe that's "Super Bowl champion Alan Branch Kills QBs", friend.  Your friendly (except to QBs) neighborhood NT had a half-sack and recovered a big fumble for the Pats on Sunday while earning his place in NFL history.

This redemption is an interesting one for two reasons; first, Branch never signed his cards so these got returned with a "NO AUTOGRAPH" stamp, like so:
and a replacement.  And second, I'm aware of that because way, way back, like almost 10 years ago, I bought a redemption card just like this one and tried to redeem it.  So I'm really curious to see what happens when I send this card in; will Panini honor it?  And if so, what will I get?  Stay tuned to find out!

Finally, it's hockey time!
More like Hockey Mikes time with more than half of the cards representing Cammalleri and Comrie, including that sweet Invincible card.  Also in the shot are a pair of Jack Johnsons, fellow D-man Jon Merrill, and sharer of Doug's 2/14 birthday Eric Nystrom, a guy I saw a ton of during my season ticket days.  His ability to pull Wolverines from Dollar Store packs and case breaks is unparalleled.
Case in point:  this stunning 2012-13 Dominion Patches Autographs patch auto (#52/60) of Bork himself, 2015-16 Stanley Cup-winner Carl Hagelin.  One Michigan alum patch/auto is great but a pair is just crazy.  I do believe this card, my eighth of the Swede, is my new favorite!

Doug, thanks again for a crazy (or would you be more comfortable with loonie?) good package, not to mention the second one I need to post while I try to figure out what to send back your way.  In the meantime, happy one week until your birthday!

2016 trade package #13: SCFtDS is one of a kind!

Hmmm, three of my last trade packages came from Doug at Sports Cards From the Dollar Store.  Who could this latest one be from?  Oh, it's Doug!  And not only are the cards he sent even more high-end than usual, they're also part of the 40th package I've shown off on this here blog, which is just crazy!  If you don't believe me just check out all of my posts tagged with his name.

By the way, based on today's exchange rate I think that puts him at 1.31 of a kind Canadian.  Anyway, let's look at some cards!
Nik Stauskas 2014-15 Immaculate Collection Rookie Jumbo Tags Printing Plate Cyan (1/1)
Nik Stauskas/Glenn Robinson III/Mitch McGary 2014-15 Immaculate Collection Quad Materials Printing Plate Black (with Gary Harris) (1/1)
Here's a pair that easily rank as "Didn't see those coming!" candidates--well, sort of, as I was able to guess the second one based on some hints he passed along to me.  Incredibly, my first two hits of Nik Stauskas, a.k.a. Sauce Castillo, come courtesy of this pair of plates from 2014-15 Immaculate.  I'm pretty sure that's a first in my collecting life.  Anyway, I would have been happy enough just scoring a simple relic of the talented guard who was a Kings first-rounder in 2014, but that's not how Doug rolls.

And one Wolverine wasn't enough as he managed to dig up a plate with three recent Wolverines, throwing in GRIII and Mitch McGary, along with former Spartan Gary Harris because reasons?  That aside this second plate is extremely cool thanks to the college connection, and it gives me three hits of those other two guys.

One other interesting note:  just about anyone who's held a plate knows they're light, thin cards.  Not so with these versions from Immaculate, which are likely as thick as the relic versions, if not the others in the product, likely to prevent pack-searching.  The extra heft makes these already interesting cards even cooler.

We're not nearly done here, though--I mean, we haven't even talked hockey yet!
Shawn Hunwick 2013-2014 National Treasures 2012-13 Panini Prime Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)
The four-player plate was what I considered the most interesting card of the package, but this is the one I was most excited about since I supercollect Hunwick.  While I don't have as much luck tracking his stuff down as I'd like, I've built up a decent collection, and Doug was nice enough to send me what's now my hockey collection-leading third 1/1 of the former netminder.

This one proved to be a bit tougher than usual to identify because it's not listed in Beckett's catalog, plus it was actually inserted into a 2013-14 product, National Treasures, despite being a plate for a 2012-13 Panini Prime card.  Glad I've got that all sorted out!
John Madden 2001-02 Parkhurst 2002 Chicago Sportsfest 1-of-1 (1/1)
Brendan Morrison 2002-03 Parkhurst 2003 Chicago Sportsfest 1-of-1 (1/1)
And to finish up our five-of-a-kind/one-of-a-kind post, here's a couple more 1/1s, stamped convention card-style.  Also it doesn't hurt that a couple of my favorite former icers, John Madden and Brendan Morrison, are the subjects.  If you've been collecting for a bit, especially recently, you've likely seen this type of oddball pop up from time to time.  While I don't know much about SportsFest and can't easily back up the authenticity of their "one-of-oneness" these cards are a fun, cheap way to add that type of hit to your collection.  And you definitely can't go wrong with an iconic hockey name like Parkhurst.

My third hit of Madden ends up being my second 1/1 of him, and the other also came from Doug!  Morrison joins in the milestone fun with his 25th hit, which is still eight behind leader Marty Turco, but I'm happy to land my first 1/1 of him.

And that, folks, is how you send someone not one or two but five 1/1s of someone's favorite team.  Incredible, generous, amazing stuff, Doug--thank you!  I'm reloaded and ready to fire back as soon as you give me the green light that your post office is no longer trying to out-lazy their American counterparts--a war they could never hope to win, eh?

Recent PC Additions

Jeff here, I don't post on here too often because for one, I generally buy cheap cards and I don't come across too many Michigan cards at that price, and two, most of my Maize and Blue cards come from Dennis so since he sends me dupes, I assume you've seen them all before. This past month though, I've picked up some on my own at various locations. I may actually have a few posts here this month. I've splurged the last couple of months, which I'm sure won't last long but it at least boosts my collections.

Let's start with some football.

2013 Fleer Retro ($.49) COMC
2013 Bowman ($.35) COMC
2013 Bowman Black ($.48) COMC
These 3 Denard cards put that collection at 24 cards. By far the biggest player collection since I went and added a bunch of Michigan alumni to my player collections. I'm pretty sure he's the only one in double digits of cards.

2015 Panini Contenders Draft Picks Game Day Tickets ($.52) (COMC)
2015 Panini Prizm Collegiate Draft Picks ($.75) (COMC)
With his super bowl appearance and a couple of really good games in his rookie season this past year, his collection is gradually moving on up recently. These 2 cards put his collection at 7 cards. I picked up my first card of his at a card show in October and all the rest have come since the new year.

2014-15 Upper Deck Letterman ($.81)  (COMC)
2014-15 Upper Deck SPx ($.75) (COMC)
These 2 cards only put this collection at 4 cards and they are all in the Maize and Blue so there's that at least.

2013-14 Upper Deck SP Authentic ($.75) (COMC)
2013-14 Fleer Retro ($.49) (COMC)
2013-14 Fleer Retro 1992-93 Rookie Sensations Auto ($5.99) (COMC)
These 3 cards put his collection at 6 cards. I actually have a couple of pro cards of Hardaway jr since he had a decent rookie season. I haven't heard much from him this year but I don't really follow NBA much other than watching an occasional Bulls game. That is my first autograph card of his as well, even at $6 when I saw it, I wanted it since he was in the Maize and Blue.

2014-15 Upper Deck SPx Finite Rookies ($1.25) (COMC)
I really don't run into any of his cards very much. This is only my 2nd card of his, both of the Maize and Blue variety.

2013-2014 NBA Hoops ($.50) (EBAY)
2015-16 Panini Contenders Draft Picks Old School Colors ($.75) (COMC)
Really love the look of this card. I'm going to have to look and see if they have any more Michigan players in the Old School Colors set. These cards put my Burke collection at 5 cards and a few of those are pro cards as well.

I'm sure you've seen some of those from Dennis collections but they were all new to me and hopefully some of them are new to you as well.

2015 trade package #17: high-end Wolverines from the Great COMC Hall of Fame

COMC flipping guru Tim from the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame recently sent me another nice haul of Wolverines as part of our ongoing trade.  He's really scored some nice stuff for me in exchange for some eBay pickups and a few things from COMC as well, and this package, a nine-spot was no exception:
Glen Rice 2011-12 Limited Trophy Case Signatures auto (#30/49)
This spiffy Rice card is my third signature of him out of three hits, and Tim also managed to land me one of the others recently.  The artistic look of the black/white design combines well with Glen's excellent penmanship.  By the way, the trophy in question here is Glen winning the 1994-95 All-Star three-pointer contest over Reggie Miller.
Glenn Robinson III 2014 Panini National Convention Rookie Materials jersey
Next in the package is this cool jersey relic that was part of a Panini National Convention wrapper redemption program last year.  What's really cool is that it's very obvious what part of the combine jersey the swatch came from.  It'll go nicely with the GRIII autograph Doug sent me last December!
Jalen Rose 2004-05 SP Authentic Signatures auto
Jalen Rose 2004-05 SP Game Used Authentic Fabrics jersey
Jalen Rose 2004-05 Sweet Shot Swatches jersey
Tim then went on a mini run on Jalen Rose with these three 2004-05 Upper Deck cards, all of which feature the current ESPN analyst as a member of the Raptors.  Up top is my first Jalen signature on a typically solid SP Authentic design, while the other two are jersey swatches in purple and...dark purple?  I can't tell, but both look great, and this trio bumps me up to four hits of Jalen in the basketball collection, which has grown quite a bit in the last few weeks!

Jake Long 2008 Absolute Memorabilia Rookie Premiere Materials Oversize Jersey Number Prime dual patch football (#03/10)
Jake Long 2008 Upper Deck Draft Edition Autographs Gold auto (#07/25)
And now we head off to the gridiron, and in a high-end kind of way--the combined numbering for this pair of Jake Longs is just 35!  First up is a beautiful double-patch/football relic from 2008 Absolute numbered to just 10.  Those patch pieces, especially the four-colored one on the right, are so sick I can only assume their parents declined to immunize them because Jenny McCarthy said they'd catch autism.  I now have seven of Jake's cards from that product in my football collection and none of them can touch the prime-ness of this one!

Also, for you Michigan uniform lovers like Jeff and me, take a gander at that UD Draft Edition auto of old #77 in the maize and blue.  I was worried Tim had sent me a dupe (I have this version already) but then noticed the numbering between the signature area and Michigan logo which makes it the Gold version numbered to just 25!  The former #1 overall pick may not have a team for next season just yet, but until he does I'm still happy to acquire stuff like this that brings back great memories of his days at the Big House.

By the way, these represent a bit of a milestone as Jake is just the second member of my football PC to hit the 70-card mark, right on the nose in this case.  He's still seven short of leader Chad Henne (who has more stuff from COMC incoming!) but has a large 11-card lead over third place holder Braylon Edwards.

Mario Manningham 2008 SPx Rookie Materials NFL Letters Dual Patch 50 dual patch (#22/50)
Mario Manningham 2008 SPx Winning Materials Football Shape 39 jersey (#09/39)
Two Manninghams does not equal too many Manninghams, so keep sending them my way, guys, like Tim did here with a pair of 2008 SPx cards.  Keeping up the high-end theme, first up is a dual patch card, the "NFL" version numbered to 50, which includes some nice stitching on the "L."  That's followed up by a single relic "Football Shape" version numbered to just 39, and that includes a beautiful blue swatch of a Giants jersey.  As I've said before, UD made a bunch of different versions of these Rookie Materials and Winning Materials cards with various names, shapes, and numbering, so it sometimes takes a bit to sort them out--I now have five of Manningham alone and I'm still working on getting them all named correctly to alleviate future issues.  Speaking of numbers, I now own 54 hits of the fifth in a group of five football collection subjects over the 50-card mark.

Thanks again for another top-notch package, Tim, and I look forward to sending your spoils out next week after seeing if I can bolster some recent pickups with one more shot at a show!

New Additions - Wolverines Collection

If you follow me at My Sports Obsession, then you know for the last month I've been posting my Ebay pickups and some trade stuff but only some of that matters. Since some of my player collections are former Wolverines, I'll repost those photos over here along with some awesome stuff that Dennis (you may know him) sent me.

Since I haven't posted here since the end of December, this will be a photo heavy post, but I'll make the reposted cards from my blog smaller as to not give your computer lag time. Here's the collections, in no particular order.

Barry Larkin Collection

larkin01 larkin02 larkin03 larkin04 larkin05

larkin06 larkin07

Jim Abbott Collection

Chris Getz Collection

Vintage Collection

Taylor Lewan Collection

Mitch McGary Collection

There you have it, all of those were new additions to my player collections and a couple from the vintage collection. Let's get to the really good stuff, the cards with Michigan uniforms or in my world, the Michigan Collection. Although, technically, the first 2 cards are also player collections, but since they are in their Michigan uniforms, they get the big picture treatment.

I got this Glenn Robinson III card from my cousin. We went card shopping awhile back when he was up here visiting and while I didn't find any cards. He bought me a few things, because I didn't have cash on me and they didn't take debit/credit. I owed him $5 afterwards and I was going through his cards and found this beauty. He brought it up for me but had forgotten that he had. He asked me to make an offer. I told him I already owe him $5 and all I had in cash at home was a $10 so would you take $5. I may have overpayed, I may have not, I don't really know. What I do know is that this is my first card of the Glenn Robinson III Collection. Not a bad way to start I must say.

Everything below this point was all sent to me by Dennis.

Dennis sent me this card of probably my all-time favorite Wolverine running back. This Mike Hart autograph is my 14th autograph of Hart but only 4 of those are in his Wolverine uniform. Since he's a player collection, I have a bunch in his Colts uniform as well.

He also nailed me with this bunch of Wolverines.

These 2 players I definitely know. Shawn Crable I got to watch in the Maize and Blue and while I wasn't much of a football fan when Ty Law was at Michigan, I certainly know him from his distinguished NFL career. As always, and Dennis will agree, love the Topps Magic cards.

My only card of Ronald Bellamy and it's an autograph, and numbered at that as well. Not a huge fan of Sage (or Press Pass) as far as style goes, but they always use collegiate uniforms so that makes them great sets.

This is my 2nd card of Marquise Walker, the other being a relic card. This isn't to bad of a design, it's an on card auto and it's shiny. Shockingly enough, it's a Topps card.

This is my 3rd card of Bennie Joppru, and my first autograph. The other 2 are a relic and a parallel so 3 non base cards is always good.

This is my 2nd card of Gabe Watson, both of those are autographs.

This is my 11th card of Chad Henne, one autograph and this dual-relic are the highlights. I didn't realize I had that many cards of him. I guess it helps that he had a pretty decent college career and while he hasn't been an outstanding QB in the pros, he has had his moments.

I have 4 cards of Jason Avant and this is the 2nd autograph of his. Another Topps card so they must make more college cards than I thought.

This is my 2nd autograph of Jake Long out of 5 cards. I'm pretty sure both of those have come from Dennis. The former #1 draft pick has had a pretty good pro career but has suffered some major injuries the last few years, but he was a monster at Michigan.

As you can tell, Dennis, as always, sent me a pretty awesome package. He has, by far, been the most generous trader to the Wolverine Collection. He has probably supplied most of the 54 autographs in this collection (that doesn't include all the Mike Hart autographs) as well as most of the 8 jersey cards. Mainly because he's so generous, but also because I'm cheap.

Thanks again Dennis.
