2015-16 COMC purchases: COMPCs

Last Wednesday (May 18) marked a fun confluence of events kind of like a rare alignment of planets:  former Wolverine pitchers Rich Hill, Zach Putnam, and Clayton Richard all appeared in games on the same day.

I did some quick digging and found out that that actually occurred twice last season:

• September 13, 2015:
• Rich Hill makes the start for the Red Sox in his triumphant return to a MLB rotation, and Boston defeats Tampa 2-0.  Hill goes 7 innings, allowing a hit and a walk, and strikes out 10 for the first of three straight starts.
• Zach Putnam pitches in his customary relief role for the White Sox in a 7-0 loss to Minnesota.  He records a strikeout against one hit as he mops up the 8th inning.
• Clayton Richard throws 4 innings in relief of Cubs starter Dan Haren, who'd given up 4 runs in just 3 innings.  Richard gives up the winning run in the Phillies' 7-4 win and is saddled with the loss despite allowing 3 hits against 4 strikeouts.
• October 1, 2015:
• Hill strikes out 6 in his "worst" of his four 2015 starts, which was still quality as he gives up two runs in the Yankees' 4-1 defeat of the Red Sox.
• Putnam gets a couple outs without being charged for any runs in the 6th inning of a 6-4 loss to the Royals.
• Richard throws one pitch and allows a hit with 2 out in the 7th in a 5-3 Cubs win over the Reds.

As it turns out, Wednesday was a little kinder to the Michigan trio:

• Hill went a strong 6 IP in an 8-1 win over the Rangers to move his record up to 6-3 for Oakland.  He allowed three hits and a walk to go with Texas' only run, but also struck out 6 in his sixth quality start of the season.
• Putnam's White Sox lost 5-3 to the Astros, but they can't blame him as he got three outs beginning in the 6th and allowed just a hit and a walk against two strikeouts.
• Richard got the final out in the bottom of the 13th of a 2-1 Cubs win over Milwaukee, and that earned him his first save of 2016!

So let's celebrate by showing off cards of those three guys plus pickups from five other baseball PCs, all courtesy of COMC:

Jake Cronenworth 2015 Bowman Chrome Draft/Refractor/Sky Blue Refractor
2015 Bowman Draft/Silver (#054/499)

Cronenworth is the latest Wolverines baseball alum to appear on cardboard and therefore to join my PCs.  A native of St. Clair (northeast of Detroit and on the Canadian border), he left after his junior season in Ann Arbor having put up some pretty nice overall numbers (check out all of his accolades here).  Tampa drafted him in 2015's 7th round, and so far he's had pretty good success as a hitter since his debut in low-A last year.  A middle infielder/outfielder by trade, he's played just one pro game in LF and has stuck at SS this year after moving up a level.  Jake was a pretty good pitcher for the Wolverines too but it looks like the Rays made a good call to let him focus on his bat.

To-date Jake has appeared on 19 cards (plus 10 1/1s), with all of those coming out of last year's Bowman/Chrome Draft product.  As usual there's a buttload of parallels to chase, and I landed two of them from Chrome and one from base Draft to go with each base version.  Depending on his progress it could be a while (if ever) before he gets more cards to his name, but you never know, and I hope he someday gets to make an impact at the big league level!

Chris Getz 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Gold Refractor (#30/50)

Gooooooollllld!  Moving back a few years to another middle infielder, albeit one that's retired, here's a shiny Gold Refractor of former 2B Chris Getz from 2008 Chrome Draft.  Thanks to my recent pickup of Getz's Red Refractor from the same product I can now claim ownership of the rainbow!  I'll make sure to show that off in a future post.  I now have 80 of Getz' 106 issues, good for about 75%.

Rich Hill 2008 SP Authentic By the Letter 'H' letter patch auto (#01/50)

I was definitely pretty surprised when this manuletter/auto of blog favorite (and Oakland A's ace!) Rich Hill popped up back in January, and I was all too happy to drop $7.50 to add it to the few I already have from the same product.  Of the two nameplates, I have this "H" and the "I" from "H-I-L-L" while I can almost spell out "C-U-B-S" with this "C", "U", and "S".  It'll be a big day when I can show off one or both of those!

Rejuvenated Rich continues his embarrassing dominance over my baseball hits collection with his 123rd hit as part of 244/350 issues, though I expect that denominator to grow a bit thanks to his recent success.  I love letter patch autos so this was a great addition for me to be sure.

Steve Howe 1995 Stadium Club Virtual Reality Members Only

Howe is the subject of the least interesting card today, but it's still a pretty decent one since it's a fun parallel from 1990s Stadium Club--you really can't go wrong with those.  I do think it's a bit goofy that a regular Members Only card (which I don't have, oddly enough) existed along with these parallels of the Virtual Reality cards, parallels themselves, but that's neither here nor there.  I now have 75 of Howe's 81 cards, and besides a bit of a fight to get his three '96 Leaf Certified autos I don't think I'll need to shell out too much to add him to the finished pile.

Ryan LaMarre 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition Signature Status Emerald auto (#06/25)

LaMarre is another fairly recent Wolverine with a rainbow I made some progress on this time.  I recently showed off his Black Status autograph from this same set (one of my favorites), and now I can add this one to the colorfest.  Surprisingly, this fairly limited (numbered /25) card didn't cost me very much at all.  Besides being a fun signature card, I love that it features a Michigan uni shot as well--that doesn't happen nearly as often with baseball as it does with other sports.

While I still need a pair of cards to complete this rainbow I'm happy to bump up my LaMarre total to 23 of his 37 issues while adding the 10th hit to his collection.  Hey, that's a milestone!  Ryan is the 10th player to hit 10 hits so far.

Zach Putnam 2008 Razor Letterman 5 T patch auto (#2/5)

Hill's earlier card wasn't the only manuletter/auto I scored.  I'd been lusting after this Razor Letterman of Zach Putnam for years but the seller had never budged on his price, which was way more than what similar cards #d /5 usually go for.  Eventually he finally brought the price down and I made a deal to land my first letter from this version of the nameplate; as a reminder I have the unnumbered and /20 versions done plus I even have two of the 1/1s cards.  This black version looks pretty sharp, plus it's another Michigan uni card!  It becomes my 33rd Putnam hit (second only to Hill by just 90 cards) and 42nd out of 52 issues, though of the 10 remaining eight of them are #d /5.  Jeez.

Clayton Richard 2008 Bowman Sterling Refractor (#079/199)

And here's our final 2016 player.  Richard eventually found his way from the south side to the north and the Cubs, and I hope he gets to be part of something big this year.  It took me a while but I finally added this Refractor version of his 2008 Bowman Sterling card to the base and Gold Refractor I own, leaving me just the Black Refractor #d /25 short of the mini rainbow.  It's more progress for his collection 113 cards strong out of 157 (with a tiny chance of more being made), putting me near the 75% mark.

Old George Sisler doesn't have time for all those young whippersnappers above him, dammit!  I had fun adding these four inserts to his decent-and-growing collection on the cheap thanks to COMC.  Fortunately the Toppsopoly didn't win out this time as I snuck a Panini card in there, but the Topps stuff is actually kind of fun with numbered Parallels from Triple Threads and Gypsy Queen (about the only things I can appreciate from GQ are framed versions) and a throwback cloth sticker.  For just a couple bucks I'm glad to add these and bump Gorgeous George's collection up to 54.


It was nice getting to show my baseball PCs more love, but the next few posts will cover football and hockey as I work to clean out my scan folders.

2014 COMC purchases: how long til Spring Training?

Today's post includes the last of my baseball PC stuff from the Black Friday/Cyber Monday COMC package:

First up is a seven spot of a player collected by many bloggers, Jim Abbott:

Jim Abbott 1990 Topps Debut '89

Jim indeed made his debut on 4/8/89, though it wasn't exactly a sign of what was to come as he went just 4.2 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) in a loss to future Angel Mark Langston and the Mariners.  Former Tiger Dan Petry mopped up for Abbott, who would go 12-11 the rest of the way and place fifth in ROY voting.

After I won a $20 Cyber Monday shopping spree I decided to go nuts with the house money and spend it on my PC guys.  This is another Abbott I picked up late because the price was right and I liked the design.  It's fun collecting cards with different shots of Jim's pitching motion, especially one that so clearly shows him holding his glove to his right side.

This one set me back a bit more than a dollar, and that's probably because the product isn't extremely common on the secondary market.  I'm sure that has to do with the high cost, though it's easy to argue that much of what you get makes it worth it.  As I often do, I really like the Gold parallel design here where the color does a good job of making it stand apart from the base card.

Jim Abbott 2012 Topps Archives SP

I'm not one to collect short-printed portions of base sets, especially when most of the players aren't guys I collect, so a good alternative is picking those up as singles occasionally, like this Abbott from '12 Archives.  It's a nice callback to the design from the '92 set some 20 years prior, and it goes well with the autographed version I own.

I just grabbed this EEE insert because he was of course drafted out of Michigan, though the card doesn't mention that.  It's also funny pairing it up with the Topps Debut card above since this one messes up his debut date, which should be 4/8, not 8/8.

Jim Abbott 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Framed Blue (#086/499)

I think UD Masterpieces did this design first--and possibly better--but Jim's 2013 GQ card is certainly very frame-able, no?  Oddly enough I haven't bothered to pick up his base version from the set yet, but I will at some point.

Jim Abbott 2013 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions auto

Last up is this low-end autograph from 2013 Goodwin Champions.  The lack of a logo is less of a drawback for me than the overall boring design of the rest of the card, but it was still a very cheap Abbott autograph and that's all I really cared about.  This is my seventh hit of Jim and so far every one of those features an autograph.

Speaking of numbers, Jim gets to be the subject of the first of today's milestones as he moves past the century mark to 103 cards!

Chris Getz 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Blue Refractor (#26/99)

This Getz has me feeling blue, but in a good way as it's another step towards his ten-card 2008 Bowman Draft/Chrome rainbow.  That and it's my favorite Refractor color, of course, though as usual I prefer dark blue.  Just two cards stand between me and another finished project:  Refractors in Gold (/50) and Red (the always rare /5).  I'm just about at 70% of his run with 74/106 as of today.

Rich Hill 2008 Upper Deck Premier Swatches Silver triple patch (#06/10)

Aw yeah, time for more patchtastic fun with Rich Hill!  My 111th hit of the lefty hurler is this gorgeous triple patch which adds to my collection of Hill's '08 UD Premier bunch.  He's represented on 22 cards in the product including six Premier Swatches cards, all of which I can now claim to own.  Feel free to check out the group in his album or just enjoy looking at this red, white, and blue beauty if that's your preference.  Meanwhile I'll keep counting with 230/347 (almost two-thirds!) and 242 overall, currently one ahead of Barry Larkin for the PC lead.

Mike Matheny 2005 Topps Gold (#705) (#0633/2005)

Matheny has a nice number of cards in 2005 Topps products because he appears in flagship, Chrome, and Update/Chrome.  Here's the Gold parallel of his second flagship base card honoring his 2004 Gold Glove.  Maybe sometime I'll grab his First Edition and Black parallel cards to complete the bunch.  The above card is my 51st of St. Louis' manager.

Hal Morris 1995 Donruss Diamond King

I've been trying to get Morris past the 100-card mark and I will soon enough, but nothing of his on COMC has been calling my name lately.  Well, nothing besides this cool '95 Diamond Kings card, his second and final appearance in the insert set after being part of '92's as well.  I'm betting he was included in '95 after a 1994 season that saw him hit .335.  Make it 95 cards of William Harold Morris.

George Sisler 1960 Fleer

Well well well, we have a Hall-of-Famer in our midst today.  Sisler wants to know how long this picture-takin' bullshit is gonna take so he can go out and hit, see?  This '60 Fleer issue is my oldest card of Gorgeous George by a year--I also have his Fleer card from '61.  Adding something from closer to his playing days is likely out of my budget so it's cool to be add at least something of his that falls under the vintage category.  Also, like Abbott he's celebrating a milestone today as he reaches the 50-card mark--even if he doesn't look excited enough to celebrate anything.

Well, that's it for baseball PC stuff this time, and I didn't pick up anything for these guys during the Boxing Day sale, but I do have a few things from the show I hit up yesterday to show off soon, after I get to posting the rest of my football haul (which will likely be tomorrow).

8-10-14 card show report: show me the Wolverines

As you might have read over on TMV tonight, I hit up the usual card show for the second month in a row thanks to my lack of interest in anything on the usual sites for now.  I spent most of my money on trade bait and a box of 2013 SPx football (reviewed on TMV), but I did dig up five Wolverines on the cheap that I'm happy to show off to you now:

Charlie Gehringer 2003 SP Legendary Cuts Etched in Time 175 (#079/175)

This not-quite-manurelic Gehringer has a cool "etching" on a wood-like piece inserted into the card (see the base version here).  It looked too nice to pass up for just a couple bucks, and it highlights the Mechanical Man entering the Hall in 1949.  Three versions were made, with the other two being numbered to 400 and 300 (though what's stamped on the piece stays the same).  This is my 18th Gehringer, and one of my nicest ones at that!

George Sisler 1979 Topps #411 (with Ty Cobb)

I scored my second-oldest Sisler (to this '61 Fleer) for less than a buck today in the form of this '79 Topps All-Time Record Holders card that notes Sisler and Ty Cobb as the season and career hit leaders at the time.  Cobb's record of 4191 stood from 1928 to 1985, when Pete Rose broke it.  Sisler's, meanwhile, lasted from his 257-hit 1920 season until it was finally topped by Ichiro in 2004 when the Mariner compiled 262 (while appearing in seven more games and with 73 additional at-bats).  That means Gorgeous George's mark needed 84 years to be broken!  It's fun to have a card to note that feat, and it join's Sisler's PC as his 49th card.

Braylon Edwards 2011 Timeless Treasures Jerseys jersey (#173/250)

For just $1 I added this cool Braylon Edwards jersey which arrives in the form of this 2011 Timeless Treasures card whose design I can't help but like for some reason.  If I had to guess, it's the borderless photo.  Not a bad relic for Bray-Bray, and maybe the first card of the cameraman making a cameo on the sideline?  This is Braylon #55 in the football PC if you're counting.

Denard Robinson 2013 Finest Jumbo Jersey Autographs Refractors jersey auto

Remember when I scored that Tulo auto ridiculously cheap at a previous show?  I made sure to hit that guy's tables again and once more he had some sparkling deals on some nice stuff in the form of $4 or 3/$10 cards (and more).  I grabbed a few of those for others, but one I was shocked to find for myself was this Denard auto/jersey from 2013 Finest.  It's my second auto/relic of Shoelace after Sam the Dimwit sent me this auto/patch from the same set.  Considering I would have happily paid a few more bucks for it, I was thrilled.  It's my 6th Denard hit overall and I'm having a surprisingly ok time finding his stuff at reasonable prices.

Tyrone Wheatley 2005 Zenith Z-Jerseys jersey

Last up is this Raiders black jersey of thundering RB Tyrone Wheatley.  A buck was all it took to pry it away from the same seller that had the Braylon.  You can't go wrong with a non-white swatch plus Panini's signature Dufex Technology!  My second relic of the former bruiser is my fifth Tyrone overall.

For my money it was definitely another productive show, and better yet, I only had to scan five cards to show off this time!

2014 COMC purchases: George Sisler will see you in St. Louis

I'm back with more COMC pickups (just a few posts left!), and today is all about "Gorgeous" George Sisler:

George Sisler 2006 SP Legendary Cuts Baseball Chronology Gold (#074/550)

Lots of other records always got more press, including Lou Gehrig's 2130 consecutive games, Maris' 61 homers in a season, and Ruth's 714 career HR.  Still, it took longer for a different mark to get broken than each of those:  It wasn't until Ichiro totaled 262 hits in 2004 that Sisler's single-season record of 257 was broken--a full 84 years later.  Good on UD to highlight this feat (the original one, that is) with a cool numbered card.

George Sisler 2006 Ultimate Collection (#152/799)

It's well-known that card companies love to re-use photos as much as possible when producing their cards, and here's a good example, as I have issues from 2007 UD and 2010 Topps, among others, featuring the same image.  It's certainly a nice one to use, and I very much like Ultimate Collection's premium design (and serial-numbering).

One of today's themes is "Triple Threads pairs," and I think you'll see why in a minute.  By the way, I've always appreciated that it's very easy to distinguish Triple Threads' various parallels.

George Sisler 2009 Topps Wal-Mart Chrome Cereal Refractor Platinum

What would George think of this very flashy Refractor?  Probably too over-the-top for him, but I thought it looked cool enough to pick up, plus, hey--Refractor!

"Whaddya MEAN smile--I ain't smilin', that's for broads, see?"  In this case I'm glad the cards are numbered on the front because I would have guessed the one on the right was Sepia compared to the previous year's set.

George Sisler 2009 Topps Turkey Red

Turkey Red!  (Almost) Always a favorite of mine.  I really like the fielding pose used here--which may look familiar since it's the same image from the Refractor above.  Since Sisler was known more for his hitting, he doesn't get too many shots in the field, and I confirmed that by counting just six in his collection so far.

George Sisler 2010 Topps Triple Threads base (#0184/1350) and Sepia (#119/525)

And now in 2010 we're back to the Base-Sepia combo.  Of the group today, I think 2010's design is my second favorite, with my #1 choice upcoming.  Also, "Only dames don't choke up on the bat, ya palooka."

George Sisler 2010 Topps Turkey Red

This Turkey Red card, which looks as nice as the '09 version in its own way, shares the image from the Ultimate Collection card seen above.  It's artsy enough to blow up, frame, and stick up on the wall of your favorite museum!

George Sisler 2011 Topps Triple Threads base (#0274/1500) and Emerald (#228/249)

As a curveball, for 2011 I threw in an Emerald parallel instead of Gold or Sepia.  Not on purpose, really--that's just what had the best price.  Out of the four versions today, the 2011 has my favorite design that includes a nice color scheme and quality photos.  That might influence me to put more effort into this rainbow at some point.

George Sisler 2013 Panini Cooperstown Green Crystal

Speaking of colorful cards and verdant colors, we close things out today with this Green Crystal parallel from 2013 Cooperstown.  I previously owned just the base version, so maybe this is the start of another rainbow as well.  By the way, this is one of the few cards I'm showing off today that doesn't re-use a photo from another Sisler in my PC!

An especially productive addition of 14 new Sislers puts the HOFer's PC up to a stout 48 cards, meaning it's almost time for another milestone here at chez TMM!

2014 trade package #10: George Walks the Plank

I've traded with newer Pirate/WVU blogger Matt of Bob Walk the Plank a few times over on the other blog, but the most recent package he sent me includes my first Wolverine card to show off over here.

Last week Matt showed off one of his signature box breaks, this time 2009 Topps 206.  I quickly noticed that one of his inserts fit right into one of my PCs:

George Sisler 2009 Topps 206 Silk Mini Piedmont Framed (#15/50)

Hey, it's one of those guys I just talked about yesterday!  I actually already have a base and mini of Sisler from this set, but what's cool is that the image on this Silk card is different.  However, the image appears to be the same one used on a different 2009 Topps set--this Legends of the Game Career Best card from '09 Flagship.

I complain about Topps plenty, but I don't think I've ever said a bad word towards any of the mini framed-type cards the manufacturer has put out over the last few years.  The Silk cards are especially cool, and I think they make much more sense in the standard size frame instead of loose.

This is my 34th Sisler and it happens to be one of my favorites for the reasons above.

Charlie and George were among the Greatest Hitters

I realize I've gone without posting for nearly two weeks, but I've been busy putting together my spring cleaning contest for the other blog (which I hope to have ready by today), and more importantly, enjoying the fantastic spring/summer weather that's been long overdue!

While I have plenty to show off in the form of trades and pickups from Sportlots, COMC, eBay, and more, today I have a pair of cards I dug out while flipping through things to get rid of:

Charlie Gehringer and George Sisler 1982 TCMA Baseball's Greatest Hitters

TCMA cards, and this set in particular, may be familiar to many of you.  This version came out a year before I was born, but my parents must have bought them for my brother and I at some point, and I've had them for a long, long time.  It's chock full of legends, including these two, which are among my player collections.

Both Gehringer and Sisler are in the Hall of Fame, of course, and for each that was the case especially thanks to their hitting prowess.  Gehringer, the "Mechanical Man," finished with a career average of .320 and more than 2800 hits.  Sisler was even more renown for his skills with the bat, tallying a .340 career mark and owning the single-season hits mark of 257, broken many years later by Ichiro.

These cards mark my 17th Gehringer and 33rd of Sisler, and I think they were perfect for a lazy Sunday kind of post, which will hopefully get me back in the habit!

2014 COMC pickups #9: done already?

Well here we are, my final COMC pickup post for January through April of 2014.  I'm sorta getting better at not dragging these out like I have in the past!

Today I have 11 more cards of a total of five players:

Drew Henson 2001 Fleer Platinum RC (with Morales)

Hey, it's a Drew Henson RC!  Surprisingly I didn't have anything first-year of him, other than a bat relic, which doesn't count.  That means I can finally form a trifecta, which is something I might arrange on this blog in the future.  It's also my 25th Henson, which is kind of a fun little milestone.  By the way, does anybody remember Andy Morales?  So much for the Cuban being any kind of prospect--he spent 2001 with an independent team and the Yanks' AA affiliate, then spent all of 16 games with Boston's AA team before he was done for good.

Rich Hill 2002 Bowman Chrome Draft Refractor (#094/300)

Refractor!  Hill has just 10 cards from 2002, and the only Bowman Draft/Chrome I still need is the Gold Refractor /50, which will complete that rainbow.  I'm sure I've said before that this is a great looking Chrome set, and "great" gets upgraded to "amazing" when it gets the Refractor treatment.

Rich Hill 2008 Upper Deck Premier Autograph Parallel auto (#12/25)

What's this?  A Rich Hill COMC hit I didn't already have?  BUY BUY BUY!  Less than $4 was enough to land me this very limited 2008 UD Premier auto.  Rich appears on a crazy 22 different cards from that product, many of which are autographs and relics, so this joins that large group.  The card is a "parallel" to the base card, and I also have the even rarer Blue parallel, which features the same color scheme as the base card for whatever reason.  As for this one, say hello to Rich Hill hit #101 and overall card #231 (including 12 1/1s) for the player who continues to dominate my baseball PCs.

Barry Larkin 1994 Donruss Diamond Kings

Well if THIS guy isn't a Diamond King, who is?  The legendary Dick Perez again applied paint to canvass and created some beautiful baseball masterpieces which Donruss then blinged out a bit.  This is exactly the kind of 90s insert I love adding to my PC.

Speaking of fun 90s stuff, here's a great example of a Topps set from that decade that still looks great--Topps Gold Label.  Full-bleed photos get the high-end, super shiny, gold foil treatment, and when you get a player as good as Larkin, the set lives up to its name.

And lastly, here's a great looking Larkin relic that I managed to buy for under $5.  It's obviously from one of Cincy's gray unis, meaning it's not a bland white swatch, which means I like it.  It's actually my 14th hit of Barry, tying him with Chris Getz for fourth place in the collection.  Along with the other two cards in the trio, I can now claim ownership of 211 Larkins!

Just one Richard card today, but it's a pretty significant one.  I had this Gold Refractor on my COMC watchlist for a long time, but the seller, in my experience, is notorious for refusing to budge on higher-than-reasonable prices.  I managed to score it on sale for about $2.50, finally, and the fact that it's #01/50 is just a nice bonus.  It goes along nicely with the base card I have, and hopefully I'll land the Refractor and Black Refractor soon.  Best of all, it's my 100th non-1/1 of Clayton, putting me 45 cards away from his run to-date (which could obviously change at any point), so you know I'm in celebration mode!

George Sisler 1961 Fleer (#78)

Well there's a nice start to Sisler's pickups for today!  It's my first actual vintage card of the Hall-of-Famer, even if he doesn't look terribly happy to be there.  I'm also working on trying to pick up the 1960 version to go along with it, so watch for that soon.

George Sisler 2002 Greats of the Game

Greats of the Game is a great set--no need for any other superlatives, I mean, let's be real.  Sadly, it's his only card from the brand!

George Sisler 2005 Artifacts (#0667/1999)

Old George is part of a subset of the main Artifacts set focusing on legends that's numbered to 1999.  It's kind of fun seeing black and white photos on cards with any semblance of color, isn't it?

George Sisler 2007 SP Legendary Cuts

You might recall this set from the post earlier in the series that included Charlie Gehringer.  A classy card from what I like to call the "Rising Sun" set is a nice way to end things today and for this feature...for now.  Sisler, by the way, ends the series with a stout 32 cards in his PC.

Well, it's been lots of fun showing off my COMC haul from the last few months, and, you know, actually getting through them reasonably quickly.  Now it's on to new things from elsewhere, so watch for those soon!
