2017 trade package #5: the Daily Dimwit

I'm guessing most of you reading this are heading over from this evening's TMV post which saw the glorious return of a Daily Dimwit trade package to my mailbox.  In that post you got to see a great new Jim Abbott for my collection, and I'm also happy to have something to show off over here tonight:
This isn't the card in question, but the fact that it's a 2015 Prizm card of former #1 WR Devin Funchess makes it a nice teaser for what I'll be showing in a second.  More than just a nice unexpected throw-in, this is one of Funchess' 24 RCs from that year.
Now here's the main event.  The official title for this guy is 2015 Panini Prizm Rookie Autographs Prizms Red Power Prizms Red Power (I don't know why "Red Power" gets repeated but whatever).  All I care is that it's a very cool looking autograph of Funchess, making that the first such card of him in my football PC.  Sam pulled this very card, #d 04/75, from a box purchased around Black Friday of 2015, and I was able to land it along with the previously-mentioned Abbott for a nice haul of Astros stuff.  It sure is nice to have a Houston collector to trade with once again!

Thanks again, Sam!  Let's not wait so long to trade again next time!

2013 trade package #19: the Daily Denard-wit

If you caught my post on TMV tonight you were treated to 50% of the trade package I received from Sam of the Daily Dimwit.  Sam was an awesome trader to work with once again and we had no problem working out a deal that included a nice addition to my Tigers PC.  Still, once you see what I ended up with here, you know which card was REALLY responsible for this deal going down!

In this Dimwit post from a few weeks ago, Sam showed off a few box breaks he did at his LCS' trade night.  Take a wild guess at which card immediately grabbed my attention and caused me to rush over to the comment section to claim it in a possible trade.  Go on, guess.  Yep, it was THIS beauty:
Denard Robinson 2013 Finest Rookie Patch Auto Refractor patch auto
Oh hai, first Denard Robinson hit to grace my football PC!  I'd been hoping to pick up a Denard auto sooner rather than later, and history repeated itself with Sam sending me a much-appreciated (and -coveted) card in a great deal.  This is the first of what will hopefully be many Shoelace PC appearances on this here blog, and I can promise you I'll always remember this first one.  Speaking of his collection debut, D-Rob becomes the 124th different subject in the football collection, a number that still makes my head spin.  I can't imagine starting off his collection with anything better than this gorgeous patch combined with an auto, then Refractor-ized!

Thanks as always Sam, and I wouldn't worry about Denard's (and Chad Henne's) Jags threatening your Texans, unless your Houston guys pull something from celebrating too many TDs.  Readers, hit up the Daily Dimwit for quality blogging from a hall-of-fame writer and trader.

Introducing TMM's very first contest

This blog's been going for more than a month now and I'm very happy with how things have gone.  I certainly feel better having my Michigan stuff split off from TMG since obviously only a small set of my readers were actually checking out those posts.  Also, it's been great to have Jeff on board since he's provided great content in terms of his own Michigan PC stuff and some editorials as well.

Because things seem to be going in the right direction, I though it was about time that I put up this blog's first contest.  I want to be very clear that this isn't a page view/followers grab--it's intended to thank and reward each of you who read this fledgling blog as much as you do.  That's why the only requirement this time is for you to leave a comment on this post.  It can be literally whatever you'd like (with a couple requirements, mentioned below).

Each person will get a maximum of one entry, which will be randomed off in the usual way, and I won't be awarding bonus entries for following, pimping the contest, etc.  All I ask is that when you leave a comment, you do so with an account that links to your email, or that you leave contact info in the comment itself.  As such, I will automatically disqualify all entries made that result in a "no-reply..." address and that do not include contact info in the comment itself.  Good?  Good.

Now that all that is clear, here's what our one winner will receive:
  • Austin Powers UD Piece of Hollywood Costume relic (from Sam's recent group break)
  • Shaun Alexander 2003 SP Game-Used Edition jersey (which I received by accident from my favorite Blowout seller)
  • 2010 Press Pass PE auto of Joe Webb and Jersey of Sean Canfeld (extras from my several breaks of those)
  • A complete set of 2011 SAGE HIT low series and Pre-Rookies (I have a few of these from busting lots of those too)
  • And finally, something nice of the MLB or NFL team of your choice.  I'll do my best to make it something good like a hit if I can, but please keep in mind I don't have hits of every single team, so if I don't, I'll try to make it some nice inserts or RCs or something.  Please make sure to include your favorite team in your comment
The contest will end one week from today (Sunday) at 11:59 pm EST.  I'll remind you guys during each post this week, then next Monday I'll do a quick randomization and post the winner.  As a reminder, please make sure to leave me some sort of contact info in your comment, and make sure to mention your favorite MLB or NFL team.

Thanks again to everybody who reads and/or follows this blog.  I look forward to providing more Michigan Wolverines-centric comment, along with Jeff, for a long time!

Ain't That Rich?

Just a quick post tonight thanks to Jeff providing some great content, but I wanted to show off a card I just got from Sam in a trade along with my loot from his group break:
Rich Hill #36 in my PC is this 2007 UD Masterpieces Strokes of Genius auto.  I've been after this card for quite a while, and I know I've been after Sam's copy for a good while as well.  He was more than fair in what he demanded for compensation, so he was happy to ship it on over with my group break stuff, and now here it is for all to see.

I think the Masterpieces set is pretty much universally liked in my experience.  It's got a high-quality artistic feel to it that I don't think similar sets like Topps Heritage and Gallery even begin to approach.  It's one product where anybody would gladly build the base set just to be able to display them proudly, but then UD ups the ante on the autographs by throwing on a sharp border, leaving the right amount of space for the photo and signature, and even getting--*GASP*--an on-card autograph!

It may not be the rarest or most expensive in my collection, but this is easily one of my favorites of Hill, who oddly enough always looks happier in his Cubs cards, probably because they were the best days of his career.

Thanks again for a great trade, Sam!
