2013 eBay purchase #52: putting another Putnam project away!

While I do have one more SportLots pickup post to cover, today instead you'll be getting my latest eBay purchase.  Although it's only one card, it's a doozy for my PC!

You might recall that earlier this year I polished off Zach Putnam's 2008 Razor Letterman unnumbered nameplate.  That required finding the single-color "P" auto, which I had a hard time doing for the longest time.  It's kind of funny that now there's actually two more of them up on the Bay as of this post.

Meanwhile, I managed to get myself tantalizingly close to the version serial-numbered to 20, lacking only the "M."  One came up on eBay last year for far too much, though I still almost landed it in a Blowout deal, which fell apart after the member proved to be as untrustworthy as his reputation.  I never sent him anything, though oddly enough he did buy the card hoping to trade it to me, so I don't know what he did with it.

Flash forward to last week when the Putnam I needed most FINALLY turned up on eBay again (no idea if it was the same one!) in an auction that would end Thursday evening, with a starting bid of $10 and free shipping.  Though I would have happily spent more, I was fortunate enough to score the sixth and final manupatch/auto I needed for that reasonable opening bid.  Better yet, the seller was on his game, getting the card to me on Monday, just a few days later.

So here it is, the most recent card to get me all wound up:

As with the rest, there's plenty to love:  the goofy manupatch letters, the beautiful signature, and the obvious Michigan Baseball uni.  This is actually my 15th Putnam from the set:  two nameplates of six cards each, two 1/1 autos, and a plate.  In terms of Zach's collection, this is also his 31st hit (still second only in the baseball PC to Rich Hill, even if he's 60 cards behind at this point) and 40th card of 52 in his PC overall (plus the three 1/1s I just mentioned).  From here on out, I'll have to chase down one unnumbered card, two #d to 25, and NINE limited to just five copies.  EEP!  At least eight of those nine are autographs, which will make for a fun chase to the finish.

Here's a couple views of the nameplate all together:

As usual, this completed project will now live on my "Completed nameplates and rainbows" page where you can enjoy them anytime!

With that excitement celebrated, it's back to business next time with the remaining SportLots pickups.  Until then, I'm gonna finish what I have on my plate!

2013 eBay purchase #16: "P" as in "Putnam", or "put a fork in it"

I'm very excited to show off today's eBay purchase arrival because of its significance to my collection:
Zach Putnam 2008 Donruss EEE Turn of the Century auto (#13/50)

JUST KIDDING!  Granted, I'm probably the only one that finds this funny since I was already well aware that I previously added a copy of this card to my collection a while ago.  No, this one came as part of a two-card lot of an auction I won because I was interested in the OTHER card.  Jeff, this one's all yours if you want it, buddy--I know you have that slightly more common version already.

So the real reason I'm excited is that the other card finally, FINALLY completes one of my many collecting projects, and it "only" ended up costing me a bit more than $12 shipped, meaning I couldn't click "Buy It Now" fast enough.  Here it is:
Zach Putnam 2008 Razor Letterman Unnumbered P patch auto

I'm not sure if any of you realize how long I've been looking for this single Putnam letter--I'm pretty sure this is actually the first one I've seen for sale anywhere, which is crazy to me since it's the most common version, and I even managed to pick up TWO 1/1 versions in the meantime!  In two cases of this product, I never pulled a single Putnam, and I'm still having a hell of a time finding the "M" #d /20 that I need.  But for now, all that's forgotten because this baby allows me to add a new member to my Completed Nameplates and Rainbows page!:

Bam.  I'm thrilled to finally own one of the four Putnam nameplate versions from the set.  As you can see on my have list, I'm missing one of the #d /20 cards (the aforementioned "M"), all six of the /5s, and four of the 1-1s.

In terms of his player collection, Zach's IHAS count is 35/52, plus three 1/1s.  This card also has a bit more significance as it puts my four-sport total at a minor milestone of 950, plus 190 baseball hits.  With more stuff incoming, including my latest COMC haul, will I hit 1000 and 200 soon?  Watch and find out!

A sports Saturday with a lot on my plate

Today should be a pretty busy sports day for me:  lots of college football to watch, then Michigan at Nebraska at 8 (game day post coming, but since the game's so late I thought I'd take the chance to get another post up!), and World Series game 3 at about the same time.  So yeah, I really do have a lot on my plate today, and speaking of plates,

Zach Putnam 2008 Razor Letterman Printing Plate Yellow (1/1)

here's Zach Putnam PC card #21, which is my first printing plate of him, but not my first 1/1!  Even though I paid a bit more than I had hoped in order to nab this card, I knew I had to grab it here and now because this was the first time I had ever seen any of his Razor plates appear on eBay.  Hell, I opened two cases of the stuff and never did pull one myself, and overall I haven't seen many plates of ANY player from the set for sale on the Internets.

So my Putnam collection is growing nicely (with more to scan and post) while my overall Michigan baseball PC has hit a new milestone of 125 cards.  At the beginning of the year I was hoping to end 2012 with at least 100 cards in that PC, and I'm happy to say I've more than met that goal.  You'll also notice the all-sport count is creeping toward 750, which will also be a fun mark to celebrate.

Well, I still have a few in-hand and incoming eBay purchases, plus plenty of COMC stuff to post, so we'll see where I'm at the next time I post something, but stay tuned, and GO BLUE!

And while you're reading this, please feel free to head over to TMV to check out a new Bill Freehan pickup as well!

This Putnam Letterman fits me to a "T"

Just a quickie today in the form of a recent cheap eBay pickup (one of a few which you'll see in the next week or so):

Zach Putnam 2008 Razor Letterman T patch auto
I still search for these almost every day, but since I'm down to needing so few, it's rare that I actually find one that I need.  In case you're wondering, I'm left needing an unnumbered "P" and an "M" #d /20.  The latter is on eBay, but the seller is an ignorant douche who doesn't comprehend the concepts of "actual card values," "negotiating" and "not being a dick."  That's ok, I'll have both soon enough, and when I do I'll show off both nameplates right here.

For some quick stats bookkeeping, this is my 19th Putnam, 12 of which are of the manupatch auto variety.  And I just might have more of these to show off sooner than you might think!
