Mike Hart 2008 Score Select RC (#027/999)
The only non-hit on the day is this shiny Select RC of Hart, which is a souped-up version of his base RC from the regular product. It's reflective and numbered, both of which make it cool, and it goes along with the Henne I grabbed from the same set. This is only the third card of #20 scanned into my Michigan Football Rookies collection, but I'll eventually get around to putting up the rest as I find time to dig them out and scan them.
Jason Avant 2006 Leaf Rookies & Stars Dress for Success Materials helmet (#049/110)
And now we move on to the hits, starting alphabetically with Panthers WR Jason Avant. From his rookie year of 2006 I found this helmet relic for under $2 and decided it would be a fun addition. As rare as helmet relics tend to be, though, it's actually my second, and the original also came from a 2006 Panini product. Jason is currently represented 37 times in my football hits PC.
Steve Breaston 2007 Topps Triple Threads Sepia triple jersey auto (#15/89)
Up next is this '07 TTT hit of Avant's fellow WR Steve Breaston. A Sepia parallel, it includes three swatches of his Cardinals jersey, two of which are a very nice red, plus his familiar "SB" signature. Since he's out of the league I hope to see his prices drop quite a bit because I'd be happy to pick up even more of his cards to go with the 15 I currently own.
David Harris 2011 Prime Signatures Bronze Signatures auto (#14/75)
David Harris 2012 Playoff Prestige Gamers Materials Prime patch
It's a David Harris hot pack! I don't find stuff of the tackling machine as often as I'd like, but I still managed to come up with this very nice pair. First is a numbered sticker auto from 2011 Prime Signatures, my 21st card that include's Harris' signature. The second is a very cool relic from 2012 Prestige that's a "prime" jersey I'm deeming nice enough to call a patch (which by definition should include at least TWO colors!). This is actually my first non-autographed card of the LB, but if this is as "bad" as it gets I must be doing pretty well! I hope he can get away from that dumpster fire of a team before he wastes what should be a very good career.
Chad Henne 2008 SP Authentic Retail auto RC
Jacksonville's should-be QB (seriously, have you WATCHED Bortles play this year?) and one of my favorite players makes another appearance here thanks to this signature from 2008 SPA. Seriously, how cool would it be to see a backfield featuring Henne and Denard Robinson? Anyway, this is a low-end sticker auto, but for just a couple bucks it was mine, and I'm always down for more Hennes. This card actually puts him alone in first place in the collection with a count of 68.
Marlin Jackson 2005 Bowman's Best Bronze auto (#57/99)
I've probably said this before, but it's always funny searching for Jackson on COMC because it includes results from Florida/Miami Marlins with "Jackson" in their names. Anyway, apparently there were a bunch of different colored parallels of the 2005 Bowman's Best autos, and I found a nice price on this Bronze version of Marlin's. That'll go nicely with the base (/999) and Green (/599) autos I own, and maybe I can track down the rest: Blue (/299), Red (/199), and Silver (/25). While I'm throwing numbers out at you, I now have 17 hits of the former Colt.
David Terrell 2005 Throwback Threads Footballs ball (#165/275)
Ok, it's a "David" hot pack! You all know that the Bears WR/RB duo of Terrell and Anthony Thomas is one of my favorites, and that's why both guys are featured prominently in my collection. The first card is the pennant-like School Colors relic insert from 2002 Fleer Tradition, and it includes a seldom-used shoe relic along with a nice maize swatch of pants. Remember how I mentioned Thomas along with Terrell as always? That's because I previously showed off A-Train's card from the very same set! Thomas' card includes a jersey swatch instead of pants, but other than that, they're two peas in a pod.
The other cool addition today is a simple football relic from 2005 Throwback Threads. Panini inserted these relics with a not terribly inspired design--"Let's take the base card and slap a relic in the middle of it somewhere!"--but I managed to find a cheap copy that included some writing from the ball, so this was actually a pretty fun get. All told these two cards bump me up to 36 cards, or the same number as...
Anthony Thomas 2003 SP Game Used Significant Signatures auto (#28/99)
...that guy I keep mentioning, Anthony Thomas! Though it can be tough to find his cards at reasonable prices for some reason, I'm always on the lookout for his autographed cards because he flat-out has a gorgeous signature. UD did a nice job on the design for this one, very much in the vein of its well-known Chirography set, really. Maybe they should have gone with a horizontal design so the signature wasn't perpendicular, but it still looks great either way. And once again as it should be, he's all tied up with Terrell at 36 hits!
Since I haven't necessarily called out football PC numbers recently, today's nine hits give me a new total of 933 as I give hitting 1000 by the end of the year a shot. COMC's Black Friday sale could go a long way towards making that a reality.
I will have one new football addition to show off in my next post which will cover pickups from a show I hit on Sunday, so look for that soon.
