Today you lucky readers get another healthy dose of color in the form of 15 of Clayton Richard's 2008 Bowman Draft/Chrome Draft offerings.
Richard, you might remember, came to Ann Arbor on football AND baseball scholarships. During his redshirt freshman year, he ended up #2 on the depth-chart behind a true freshman named Chad Henne. I wonder how that kid ended up doing? Anyway, Richard decided to focus on baseball instead and pitched well enough for the Wolverines in 2005 to get drafted by the White Sox in the 8th round, four rounds after fellow Wolverine Chris Getz. The White Sox eventually dumped both players, because they're stupid and have faces like butts, and that included shipping Clayton to San Diego in a multiplayer deal that brought Jake Peavy to the South (a.k.a smelly) Side. He's been a solid mid-to-bottom-of-the-rotation starter there, posting 14 wins each in 2010 and 2012. In short, he was an above-average dual-sport athlete who chose a sport and has experienced some success in the pros. Problem, Drew Henson?
Besides all that, he's the most successful former Wolverine starter in the Majors today, and I've had fun starting up a PC of his cards. So here, with minimal comments, are the 15 newest members of my Clayton Richard PC:

If you're a little confused about what's going on here, I'll explain briefly: there are two main sets in play here: 2008 Bowman Draft and 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft. Within each of those are base and Prospects versions. And of course, drilling further down, you've got several different parallels of each, including Refractors. All told, Clayton has 21 non-1/1s among these various versions.
Hands down, the Gold Refractor is my favorite, but that's not to say I dislike the cool jersey card, which is my first relic of the guy. In fact, now that I've picked that up, I believe I have the sum of his hits: one relic and two autographs. Well, that's certainly nice to have out of the way. I have his current total of MLB-licensed stuff at 103, plus another 84 (SERIOUSLY, 84?!) 1/1s, so he'll be a fun player to chase. For now I'll be happy with his IHAS count of 20, with plenty more on the way, as you'll see in my checklist spreadsheet here.
So what'll be next? I dunno, whatever I grab off the pile next! So stay tuned...
