Earlier today Jeff celebrated Michigan's rousing Little Brown Jug victory (and Devin Gardner's coming-out party) with some really nice Wolverines from his cousin. This post is my own celebration of sorts.
As previously promised, here's another pair of cards I scored separately from COMC and eBay but decided to pair up in a post because they hail from the same set:
Rich Hill 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Patch Beige (#04/10)
Rich Hill 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Patch Purple (#1/5)
As Greg and I love to comment on each other's posts, those are patchtastic! The beige card, #d out of 10, came in from COMC at a very reasonable $10 given its rarity. The Purple version is only the second I've ever seen for sale; the first is on Amazon with an absolutely ridiculous price and sparse details. I was prepared to win any kind of bidding war someone wanted to bring to me for the Purple #d /5, but I was just as surprised to pick that up for $14 shipped! These are simply gorgeous (and patriotic!) patches and I'm thrilled to own them as I continue to try to put together the entire 30-card rainbow.
This seems like a good time to remind you all that the whole project started almost two years ago, in February of 2011, thanks to Tim at the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame. Easily one of the best friends of this here blog, Tim sent me a legendary trade package that included 10 cards from the rainbow, or fully one-third. His project became mine, and almost 24 months later, I'm still at it, but I'm happy to say that I'm now just five cards away from being done with one of the earliest and most ambitious endeavors of my collecting and blogging career. The ones I still need, if you're at all curious:
- Autographs Purple (#d /5)
- Jersey-Autograph Emerald (#d /5)
- Jersey Red (#d /100)
- Light Blue (#d /49)
- Purple (#d /25)
As you can see, most of those are fairly rare, though I still can't figure out why I've never seen the Red Jersey before. Anyway, again, thanks to everyone who's contributed to this project so far by sending cards I needed in trade packages! If you happen to know where to find any of these I'll happily compensate you handsomely (and by that I'm not implying that I'd do so with a picture of me--at least not JUST a picture of me).
And now, it's time for one of my favorite features: milestone time:
- Welcome to the Rich Hill PC, Hill cards #s 100 and 101!
- Congrats to Hill on regaining the all-sport lead with 55 hits, one more than Football leader Jake Long, though each has hits left to be scanned and posted before all is said and done
- Michigan Baseball hits an even 130 while the all-sport total moves up to 753--approaching Hank Aaron territory!
As I'm sure you've noticed or guessed, I have plenty more Hill stuff to show off, but I'll try to mix things up a bit with other sports and players as I continue these posts.
Excellent Hills, not too often you can pick up two cards that rare so close together. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, dude! Since you started me off with the original 10 I don't suppose you'd like to send me the other five I need?
Deletecongrats on the milestones and yes, those are some fantastic patches! great color scheme.
ReplyDeleteThanks! That means a lot coming from a guy who has more Plates & Patches than Panini!
