Bucking the COMC posts nets me some Michigan Hockey hits

One of the many benefits of the fall cleaning lots I worked on distributing over on TMV (many still available!) is that I worked out some trades while I was at it, especially with people I hadn't dealt with before, and in some cases, whose blogs I wasn't following either.

Douglas of Sportscards From the Dollar Store is one such n00b to my daily reading list, and is now part of my completed trade list as well.  He really made the cost of shipping stuff to Canada worth it by sending me some great hockey stuff (what else?) before I even got his package out in the mail.  Here's a quick look at what he sent me:
A quartet of base cards.  Two are of one of my all-time favorites, Brendan Morrison, who was simply ridiculously awesome during his time in Ann Arbor.  Speaking of awesome, card #3 is Jack "JMFJ" Johnson, one of the best players to come out of the Michigan Hockey program in the last few years.  Finally, there's the previously-unknown-to-me Brad Jones.  Jones was a local boy who had an extremely productive career as a LW for Michigan in the early 80s, then enjoyed a fairly brief NHL career.  Congrats on finding a card of an 80s Wolverine icer I didn't know about, Douglas!

Moving on, here are the two big gets for me:
Brendan Morrison 2011-12 Upper Deck Game Jersey jersey
Marty Turco 2009-10 Upper Deck Game Jersey jersey

Woohoo!  No Topps to complain about today!  Yep, we start off with another Brendan Morrison, and you'll never hear me complaining that I've got too much stuff when it comes to him.  I now have three autographs and three relics of the former Hobey Baker winner, and I want MOAR!

While he was at it, he also managed to throw in a jersey of my all-time favorite Michigan goalie, Marty Turco.  Marty moves up to four relics along with his five autographs and still leads all hockey PC members with his new total of nine, representing nearly a quarter of my 39 in-hand-and-scanned hockey hits.  As with Morrison, I can always use more of Turco.

I'd like to extend another big thanks to Douglas for a great trade (and grabbing some freebies from me as well), giving me yet another positive experience trading with one of the residents of America's Hat.  May your poutine be delicious, your igloo warm, and your hockey lockout brief.

The rest of you should head over to Sportscards From the Dollar Store right now!

  1. If you're wondering about the Brad Jones, I had a pile of early 90s Bowman nearby when I was looking for extra cards to throw in to the pack. I remembered that at the time Topps/OPC listed the player's last amateur team on their card. So, I flipped through all the cards, but that was the only one I found that listed Michigan.

    1. All the more reason to call it a good find. I know football and basketball are good about listing colleges on their card backs, but you don't see that a ton in hockey sets. Thanks again!
