COMC haul #14: Rich Hill gives Topps an Upper-Decker

(Note:  all COMC haul posts can be accessed here)

Well, my Cyber Monday loot from COMC arrived today, and while it was a much smaller package than the previous ones, including the Black Friday purchase three days prior, it was still a great one.  Because some of the cards in those two pickups went well with others from the first, you're seeing a mashup of the three packages today (and will in the future, really).

Today I'm featuring 10 different Rich Hill cards from a few different 2006 Upper Deck sets, which I thought would be a nice way to give Topps the middle finger for when they do things like this.  Hill has a total of 19 different non-1/1s between 2006 Upper Deck and Upper Deck Special F/X, and in addition to Rich's 2006 Upper Deck #101 base card, I now own these 10 as well:
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck (#979)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck (#979)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Gold (#979) (#076/299)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Rookie Foil Gold (#13/99)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Rookie Foil Platinum (#01/15)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Silver Spectrum (#979) (#81/99)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Special FX (#979)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Special FX Blue (#101)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Special FX Purple (#101) (#136/150)
Rich Hill 2006 Upper Deck Special FX Purple (#979) (#031/150)

Obviously you can see that everything is essentially a parallel of his two '06 UD base cards.  There's not an even total number, though, because while #979 (the one of him pitching) is present in all versions, #101 (looking away after signing a baseball) is not.  Don't ask me why, I'm just the guy that collects these.

My favorite is easily the Rookie Foil Platinum card, #d 01/15, which is awesome as it's obviously #1, plus it's very low-numbered.  Amazingly, I bought it for only about $3.50!  By the way, I count seven #1/x cards in my Hill collection.

My least favorite is definitely the base Special F/X card, which is an ugly color with weird dong patterns in the background and hails from a set that was totally superfluous and didn't need to be made, which means it would totally fit in if we were talking Topps.  In general I'm just down on the whole Special F/X thing, but I do like the flagship Upper Deck and inserts very much.

So 10 more Hills pushes him up to an IHAS (in-hand and scanned) total of 114 cards overall, including 107 non-1/1s.  Hooray milestones!  I've got plenty more Hill to share with you, but really I've got plenty more COMC stuff to show off in general, so stay tuned.  Please also have a look over on TMV for Wolverines/Tigers favorite Bill Freehan!

  1. I didn't realize 06 UD had that many variations. Nice pick ups.

    1. Thanks. Yeah, tell me about it--I've still got a few more to go, should I be able to find them at reasonable prices.
